Bail Organa's Timeline

Key Events in Bail Organa's Star Wars Story

Back to All Characters

Bail Organa died in 0 BBY.

Bail Prestor Organa was a human male from Alderaan who served as his world's senator, Viceroy and First Chairman, and became one of the founding architects of the rebellion against the Galactic Empire. A principled voice for diplomacy in the Galactic Senate during the twilight of the Republic, he sat on the Loyalist Committee alongside Padmé Amidala and Mon Mothma, resisted Chancellor Palpatine's steady accumulation of emergency powers throughout the Clone Wars, and was among the signatories of the Petition of the Two Thousand. He witnessed the execution of Order 66 firsthand at the Jedi Temple, helped Obi-Wan Kenobi and Yoda escape into hiding, and afterward adopted Padmé's newborn daughter Leia, raising her as a princess of Alderaan with his wife, Queen Breha Organa. Over the next two decades he used Alderaan's wealth and his own senatorial cover to fund and shelter dissident cells — supporting the Lothal rebels, recruiting Ahsoka Tano as an intelligence coordinator under the codename Fulcrum, and working with Mon Mothma to knit scattered insurgencies into the Alliance to Restore the Republic. He was killed in 0 BBY when the Death Star destroyed Alderaan, shortly after sending Leia to Tatooine to find Obi-Wan Kenobi.

~67 BBY - Birth on Alderaan

Bail Prestor Organa is born into Alderaan's ruling House of Organa. Canon never states the year outright; 67 BBY comes from reference-book material and should be read as an estimate.

~32 BBY - Enters the Galactic Senate

Organa takes up Alderaan's seat in the Galactic Senate around the time of the Naboo crisis, beginning decades of service as a reformist and advocate of diplomacy.

22 BBY - The Loyalist Committee and the Military Creation Act

As separatist pressure mounts, Organa serves on Chancellor Palpatine's Loyalist Committee with Padmé Amidala and Mas Amedda, and is present in the Chancellor's office when emergency powers are granted and the Clone Wars begin.

22-19 BBY - The Clone Wars

Throughout the war Organa leads humanitarian relief efforts, negotiates for neutral worlds such as Mandalore and Christophsis, and works with Amidala and Mon Mothma to oppose bills expanding military spending and executive authority.

19 BBY - The Petition of the Two Thousand

Organa joins Amidala, Mon Mothma and other senators in formally demanding that Palpatine return his wartime powers to the Senate — an act that plants the seed of the future Rebel Alliance.

19 BBY - Order 66 and the fall of the Republic

Organa rides to the burning Jedi Temple and narrowly escapes clone troopers, then rescues Yoda and Obi-Wan Kenobi aboard the Tantive IV. He hears Palpatine proclaim the Galactic Empire before the applauding Senate.

19 BBY - Adopting Leia

After Padmé Amidala dies giving birth on Polis Massa, Organa takes the infant Leia home to Alderaan, where he and Breha raise her as their daughter and heir, concealing her true parentage.

~18-10 BBY - Quiet resistance

Serving the Imperial Senate as a loyal-seeming statesman, Organa funnels Alderaanian resources to displaced peoples, shelters hunted Jedi and dissidents, and quietly seeks out insurgent groups.

~9 BBY - Leia's kidnapping and Obi-Wan's return

When ten-year-old Leia is abducted by mercenaries working for the Inquisitorius, Organa calls on Obi-Wan Kenobi to recover her, and is later forced to send a desperate transmission to Tatooine as the hunt closes in on his family.

~5-2 BBY - Building the Alliance

Organa recruits Ahsoka Tano to coordinate rebel intelligence as Fulcrum, supplies the Phoenix Cell and the Lothal rebels, and works with Mon Mothma to unify scattered cells into the Alliance to Restore the Republic.

0 BBY - Yavin 4 and the mission to Kenobi

With news of the Death Star confirmed, Organa breaks openly with the Empire at the Alliance council on Yavin 4, pledges Alderaan's support, and sends Leia to Tatooine to bring Obi-Wan Kenobi into the war.

0 BBY - Death in the destruction of Alderaan

Grand Moff Tarkin orders the Death Star to destroy Alderaan as a demonstration of Imperial power. Bail and Breha Organa die with their world and its people.
