Bo-Katan Kryze

Bo-Katan Kryze was a human female Mandalorian warrior of Clan Kryze and the younger sister of Duchess Satine Kryze, who rose from insurgent to Mand'alor and ultimately reunified her shattered people. Rejecting Satine's pacifist New Mandalorian government, she joined the terrorist splinter group Death Watch and led its elite Nite Owls under Pre Vizsla, helping Vizsla ally with the Sith Lord Maul's Shadow Collective to seize Mandalore in 20 BBY. When Maul killed Vizsla, claimed the Darksaber and murdered Satine, Bo-Katan broke away and fought Maul's regime as a resistance leader, aiding Obi-Wan Kenobi's escape and then joining Ahsoka Tano and the Republic's 501st Legion in the Siege of Mandalore in 19 BBY, after which she was installed as regent — only to be discarded when the Galactic Empire rose weeks later. She spent the Imperial Era leading a Mandalorian resistance, accepting the Darksaber from Sabine Wren in 1 BBY to become Mand'alor, but her claim ended in catastrophe when she surrendered the blade to Moff Gideon and the Empire carried out the Great Purge of Mandalore and the Night of a Thousand Tears. Broken and exiled, she was drawn back into the fight in 9 ABY by the Mandalorian Din Djarin: she guided him to Ahsoka Tano, helped capture Gideon, later rescued Din from the Mandalorian mines, glimpsed a living mythosaur in the Living Waters, and — after her castle on Kalevala was destroyed — bridged the divide between the exiled clans and the Children of the Watch. Leading the united Mandalorians in the Battle of Mandalore, she saw Gideon killed and the Darksaber destroyed, and reignited the Great Forge as the accepted leader of a people finally returning home.

Date unknown - Birth into Clan Kryze

Bo-Katan was born a human female princess of Clan Kryze, of House Kryze, on Mandalore. Canon has never established her birth year or her age relative to any fixed event; she was the younger sister of Satine Kryze.

~21 BBY - Death Watch exiled from the Mandalore system

Rejecting her sister's pacifist New Mandalorian rule, Bo-Katan sided with Death Watch and its leader Pre Vizsla. After Vizsla was publicly exposed as the group's leader, Death Watch was driven from Mandalorian space and operated from exile.

~20 BBY - Nite Owls on Carlac

Commanding the Nite Owls, Bo-Katan helped run Death Watch's camp on the frozen world of Carlac, where the group terrorized a Ming Po village. She clashed with Ahsoka Tano, who exposed Death Watch's brutality to Lux Bonteri.

~20 BBY - Alliance with Maul and the Shadow Collective

Bo-Katan and Vizsla discovered the stranded Sith brothers Maul and Savage Opress. Together they forged the Shadow Collective, coercing the Black Sun, the Pyke Syndicate and the Hutts into a criminal army aimed at Mandalore.

~20 BBY - The takeover of Mandalore

With the Collective's crime waves staged to discredit Satine's government, Death Watch swept in as liberators. Satine was imprisoned and Vizsla installed himself as ruler, with Bo-Katan at his side.

~20 BBY - Maul seizes the Darksaber and Satine dies

Maul defeated and beheaded Vizsla in single combat, taking the Darksaber and rule of Mandalore. Bo-Katan refused to serve an outsider and led loyalist Nite Owls into open resistance; she freed Obi-Wan Kenobi, but Maul murdered Satine before their eyes, and Bo-Katan covered Kenobi's escape.

19 BBY - The Siege of Mandalore

Unable to dislodge Maul alone, Bo-Katan appealed to the Republic. Allied with Ahsoka Tano and Captain Rex's 501st Legion, she fought through Sundari's undercity; Maul was captured and Bo-Katan's forces retook the capital.

19 BBY - Regent of Mandalore, then discarded

Installed by the Republic as regent, her authority evaporated within weeks. Order 66 and the proclamation of the Galactic Empire ended the Clone Wars, and the new regime replaced her with compliant Imperial Mandalorian rulers.

1 BBY - Accepting the Darksaber

Fighting alongside Sabine Wren, Bo-Katan helped rescue Alrich Wren and destroy the Duchess, an Imperial weapon that vaporized Mandalorians inside their beskar armor. Sabine offered her the Darksaber, and Bo-Katan accepted it in her sister's memory, hailed as Mand'alor by the assembled clans.

~4 BBY to 4 ABY - Leading the Mandalorian resistance

As Mand'alor she rallied clans against Imperial occupation, but Mandalore's insurgency drew ever harsher Imperial reprisals.

~4 ABY to 5 ABY - The Great Purge and the Night of a Thousand Tears

Moff Gideon promised to spare Mandalorian lives and cities if Bo-Katan submitted and disarmed. She surrendered the Darksaber to him; he betrayed her, and the Empire bombarded Mandalore into a glassed ruin, scattering the survivors.

9 ABY - Meeting Din Djarin on Trask

Hunting Imperial weapons shipments with Koska Reeves and Axe Woves, Bo-Katan rescued Din Djarin, dismissed his Children of the Watch creed as a cult, and directed him to Ahsoka Tano in exchange for his help hijacking an Imperial freighter.

9 ABY - Boarding Gideon's cruiser

She joined Din's strike team to rescue Grogu and capture Moff Gideon. Din defeated Gideon and won the Darksaber, and Bo-Katan — bound by the tradition that the blade must be won in combat — refused to take it as a gift.

9 ABY - Exile on Kalevala

Her followers abandoned her for Axe Woves' mercenary fleet, and Bo-Katan withdrew alone to Kryze Castle on Kalevala.

9 ABY - The mines of Mandalore and the mythosaur

Answering a plea from Din, she descended into the ruined mines beneath Sundari, rescued him from a cybernetic Imperial creature, and saw a living mythosaur beneath the Living Waters — proving Mandalore was not cursed and remained habitable.

9 ABY - Kalevala destroyed

Gideon's forces bombarded Kryze Castle. Rescued by Din, Bo-Katan accepted refuge with his covert after being confirmed by the Armorer as one who had walked the Living Waters.

9 ABY - Reuniting the clans

Sent by the Armorer to gather the scattered Mandalorians, she reclaimed Axe Woves' fleet and persuaded exiles and the Children of the Watch to fight as one people.

9 ABY - The Battle of Mandalore

The united Mandalorians assaulted Gideon's hidden base. Gideon destroyed the Darksaber in combat with Bo-Katan and taunted that she had lost everything, but he was killed and the planet retaken.

9 ABY - Reigniting the Great Forge

With Mandalore reclaimed and reconstruction begun, Bo-Katan relit the Great Forge, leading her reunified people without need of the Darksaber. She remains alive; canon records no death.
