Hera Syndulla is a Twi'lek revolutionary leader and ace pilot who became one of the founding figures of the rebellion against the Galactic Empire and the Alliance to Restore the Republic. Born on Ryloth to the resistance leader General Cham Syndulla and Eleni Syndulla, she witnessed the devastation of the Clone Wars and Imperial occupation firsthand before leaving her homeworld to build her own fight across the galaxy aboard her starship, the Ghost. As commander of the rebel cell known as the Spectres, she led a crew that included the fallen Jedi Kanan Jarrus (who became her partner and the father of her son), the Mandalorian Sabine Wren, the Lasat Garazeb Orrelios, the astromech droid Chopper, and the Force-sensitive Padawan Ezra Bridger. She played key roles in the early insurgency on Lothal, the Battle of Atollon, and the liberation of Lothal, rising to the rank of general. Following the Empire's fall she continued to serve as a general in the New Republic, raising her son Jacen and searching for the missing Ezra Bridger, events central to the Ahsoka series.

As a child during the Clone Wars, Hera experiences the Separatist occupation of Ryloth and her father's resistance movement, developing her lifelong drive to fight oppression and forming a bond with the droid Chopper.

During the Gorse conflict, Hera crosses paths with Kanan Jarrus, a Jedi who survived Order 66; he later joins her crew aboard the Ghost and becomes her partner.
