Huyang was born in 25020 BBY.

Huyang was a Mark IV architect droid and Jedi Order professor who, for over a thousand generations, instructed younglings in the construction of their lightsabers following the Gathering — the rite in which each initiate retrieved a kyber crystal. Operating for millennia aboard the Jedi training vessel Crucible, he claimed to have overseen the lightsaber construction of nearly every Jedi in the Order's history, including Grand Master Yoda and Mace Windu. During the Clone Wars he worked alongside Padawan Ahsoka Tano while escorting a group of younglings to Ilum, and after the fall of the Jedi Order he became Ahsoka's longtime companion and pilot aboard her T-6 shuttle. Decades later, during the New Republic era, he aided Ahsoka, Sabine Wren, and Hera Syndulla in their search for the missing Ezra Bridger and Grand Admiral Thrawn, remaining a steadfast repository of Jedi knowledge and one of the few living links to the Order's ancient past.

During the Clone Wars, Huyang accompanies Ahsoka Tano and a group of younglings to the ice caves of Ilum for the Gathering, where each youngling retrieves a kyber crystal.

During the New Republic era, Huyang assists Ahsoka, Sabine Wren, and Hera Syndulla in their quest to locate the lost Ezra Bridger and prevent the return of Grand Admiral Thrawn, surviving the campaign that carries them to the distant galaxy of Peridea.
