Rey Skywalker was a human female scavenger from the desert world of Jakku who rose to become one of the last and most powerful Jedi of her era, fighting for the Resistance against the First Order during the final days of the New Republic Era. Abandoned on Jakku as a child by parents desperate to hide her from her grandfather, the resurrected Emperor Sheev Palpatine, she survived for years salvaging wreckage before her encounter with the droid BB-8 drew her into galaxy-spanning events. Strong in the Force, she sought out the exiled Luke Skywalker for training and formed a rare bond known as a dyad in the Force with Ben Solo, the fallen Jedi known as Kylo Ren. Tempted by the dark side yet ultimately choosing the light, Rey confronted and destroyed Palpatine on Exegol, ending the Sith once and for all with Ben's sacrifice. Rejecting the Palpatine name, she took the surname Skywalker in honor of her masters Luke and Leia, becoming heir to their legacy and pledging to rebuild the Jedi Order.

To keep her hidden from Palpatine and his Sith Eternal cultists, Rey's parents leave her in the care of the junk boss Unkar Plutt on Jakku and flee, later being killed. Rey grows up alone as a scavenger, awaiting a return that never comes.

34 ABY - The Force Awakens

Rey takes in the droid BB-8, flees Jakku aboard the Millennium Falcon with the former stormtrooper Finn, and experiences a Force awakening. After Han Solo's death and a duel with Kylo Ren on Starkiller Base, she travels to Ahch-To to find Luke Skywalker.

34 ABY - The Last Jedi

Rey trains briefly under a reluctant Luke Skywalker and develops a mysterious Force-bond with Kylo Ren. She fails to turn Ben Solo back to the light and rejoins the battered Resistance, helping them escape Crait.

35 ABY - The Rise of Skywalker

Rey learns she is Palpatine's granddaughter and confronts the resurrected Emperor on Exegol. Drawing on the strength of past Jedi, she destroys Palpatine, dying briefly before Ben Solo revives her through their dyad bond at the cost of his own life.

35 ABY - Taking the Skywalker Name

Returning to the abandoned Lars homestead on Tatooine, Rey buries the Skywalker lightsabers and, when asked her name, declares herself Rey Skywalker — embracing the legacy of her masters over her Palpatine bloodline.
