BB-8, sometimes spelled Beebee-Ate and nicknamed BB, was a spherical BB-series astromech droid built in 29 ABY on Hosnian Prime. Distinguished by a free-rolling ball body topped with a domed head reminiscent of an R2-series unit, BB-8 was primarily white with orange and silver accents and a single black photoreceptor. He became the loyal companion of Resistance pilot Poe Dameron, accompanying him aboard his T-70 X-wing starfighter. BB-8 is best known for safeguarding a fragment of the map leading to the exiled Luke Skywalker after Poe entrusted it to him on Jakku, setting in motion the events of the war between the Resistance and the First Order. Plucky, resourceful, and fiercely loyal, he aided Rey, Finn, and the Resistance across the campaigns against the First Order and the resurrected Emperor Palpatine, surviving the conflict as one of the era's most beloved droids.
