Gial Ackbar's Timeline
Key Events in Gial Ackbar's Star Wars Story
Gial Ackbar died in 34 ABY.
Gial Ackbar was a male Mon Calamari from the ocean world of Mon Cala who became one of the most celebrated military commanders in galactic history, serving across four conflicts over roughly six decades. As captain of the Mon Calamari Guard during the Clone Wars, he fought at the side of Prince Lee-Char against the Quarren separatists and the Karkarodon warlord Riff Tamson, helping preserve his people's throne with Republic and Gungan aid. Under the Galactic Empire he was enslaved along with much of his species, and after his rescue he rose through the Alliance to Restore the Republic to become commander of the rebel fleet, planning and leading the assault on the second Death Star at the Battle of Endor in 4 ABY — the engagement that made his warning of a trap into one of the most quoted moments of the war. He continued to serve the New Republic as an admiral and statesman for his homeworld before retiring, then answered General Leia Organa's call to join the Resistance against the First Order, advising the fleet through the destruction of the Hosnian system and the Battle of Starkiller Base. In 34 ABY he was killed when First Order fighters strafed the bridge of the Resistance flagship Raddus during the evacuation of D'Qar, ending a career defined by patient, meticulous tactical genius.
