Key Events in Hondo Ohnaka's Star Wars Story
Hondo Ohnaka
Hondo Ohnaka is a Weequay pirate, smuggler and self-styled businessman whose decades-long career made him one of the galaxy's most persistently opportunistic survivors. Operating out of the Outer Rim — most famously from a fortified base on Florrum at the head of the Ohnaka Gang — he first drew galactic attention during the Clone Wars by capturing and ransoming Count Dooku, and thereafter repeatedly crossed paths with Obi-Wan Kenobi, Anakin Skywalker and Ahsoka Tano, alternately robbing them, arming their enemies and, when the price or the mood was right, helping them. Weapons dealing to the Onderon rebels, the abduction of a group of Jedi younglings, and the destruction of his operation by Maul's Shadow Collective all followed in quick succession. Reduced to scavenging under the Empire, he resurfaced years later as a fence and freelancer who befriended the Padawan Ezra Bridger, sold the Ghost crew both useful intelligence and useless junk, and drifted into loose cooperation with the rebellion. Decades on he was still trading — running Ohnaka Transport Solutions out of Black Spire Outpost on Batuu and quietly borrowing the Millennium Falcon for jobs — a scoundrel whose loyalty was always for sale but whose affection for a handful of Jedi was, by his own insistence, entirely genuine.
Unknown date - Birth
Canon has never given Hondo Ohnaka a birth year. He is a Weequay, a species associated with the world Sriluur, and by the Clone Wars he is an established pirate captain with a long criminal history behind him.
~32 BBY - Dealings with Darth Maul
Around the time of the Naboo crisis, a younger Ohnaka is already operating as a pirate and trader in the criminal underworld, crossing paths with Darth Maul during the Sith apprentice's hunt for a captured Jedi Padawan.
~21 BBY - Capturing Count Dooku
Ohnaka's gang seizes Count Dooku and attempts to ransom the Separatist leader to the Republic, ending up with Obi-Wan Kenobi and Anakin Skywalker as unwilling guests — and then prisoners — at his Florrum stronghold.
~21 BBY - Extortion on Felucia
His pirates shake down Felucian farmers for their harvest, only to be driven off after the villagers hire a band of bounty hunters trained up with Jedi help.
~20 BBY - Arming the Onderon rebels
Ohnaka sells weapons to the Onderonian insurgency fighting the Separatist puppet government, profiting from a rebellion the Jedi were quietly backing.
~20 BBY - The kidnapped younglings
His crew boards the Jedi training cruiser Crucible and takes Ahsoka Tano and a group of younglings captive on Florrum; the younglings escape, steal his ship and force him into a grudging alliance against General Grievous.
~20 BBY - Florrum destroyed
Maul's Shadow Collective, backed by Death Watch, assaults Florrum and shatters the Ohnaka Gang, leaving Hondo with a handful of survivors and no base of operations.
~3 BBY - Meeting Ezra Bridger
Now a lone operator flying the Broken Horn, Ohnaka encounters the young Padawan Ezra Bridger, spins him a story of partnership, and begins a long, mutually exasperating relationship with the crew of the Ghost.
~2 BBY - The last battle on Agamar
Ohnaka drags Ezra, Zeb and Chopper into a scheme to loot a Separatist supply ship, waking a droid army still fighting the Clone Wars decades after it ended.
~2 BBY - Selling junk to the rebellion
He continues fencing salvage, stolen goods and dubious intelligence to the growing rebel network, including a shipment of purportedly valuable cargo that proves worthless.
~1 BBY - Working with Saw Gerrera
A deal with the rebels goes sideways and Ohnaka finds himself alongside Saw Gerrera's partisans investigating an Imperial construction project, before slipping away to save his own skin.
~34 ABY - Ohnaka Transport Solutions on Batuu
Decades later and still very much alive, Ohnaka runs a shipping-and-smuggling outfit from Black Spire Outpost on Batuu, hiring freelance crews and making use of the Millennium Falcon while the First Order and Resistance struggle around him.
