Jar Jar Binks

Jar Jar Binks was a Gungan from the swamps of Naboo whose bumbling good intentions repeatedly placed him at the center of galactic history. Banished from Otoh Gunga for his clumsiness, he was rescued by Jedi Master Qui-Gon Jinn during the Trade Federation's invasion of Naboo in 32 BBY and served as the guide who brought the Jedi and Queen Padmé Amidala to his people, brokering the Gungan-Naboo alliance that broke the occupation; he was promoted to Bombad General for his accidental heroics at the Battle of Naboo. Elevated to Junior Representative for Naboo in the Galactic Senate, he was serving in Senator Amidala's place in 22 BBY when he proposed granting Supreme Chancellor Palpatine emergency powers — the motion that created the Grand Army of the Republic and set the Republic on the path to becoming the Galactic Empire. Through the Clone Wars he undertook improbable missions to Rodia, Aleen, Bardotta and his own homeworld, often paired with Jedi such as Anakin Skywalker, Obi-Wan Kenobi and Mace Windu, and he was among the mourners at Padmé Amidala's funeral in 19 BBY. Under the Empire he faded from politics, and by 5 ABY he was living in Theed as a shunned clown and street performer, entertaining refugee children while adults blamed him for the Empire's rise.

~52 BBY - Birth on Naboo

Jar Jar Binks is born a Gungan on the planet Naboo. Canon never states a birth year; the commonly quoted 52 BBY is a Legends-era figure and should be treated as an estimate.

Before 32 BBY - Exile from Otoh Gunga

His clumsiness and repeated accidents lead Boss Rugor Nass to banish him from the Gungan city of Otoh Gunga, leaving him to scavenge alone in the Naboo swamps.

32 BBY - Meeting Qui-Gon Jinn

During the Trade Federation invasion, Jar Jar is nearly crushed by an invasion transport and saved by Qui-Gon Jinn, whom he pledges a life debt to and guides, with Obi-Wan Kenobi, to Otoh Gunga.

32 BBY - Journey to Tatooine and Coruscant

Traveling with Queen Padmé Amidala's party, he is stranded on Tatooine, where the group meets young Anakin Skywalker, before continuing to Coruscant to petition the Senate.

32 BBY - Brokering the Gungan-Naboo alliance

Returning to Naboo, Jar Jar leads the Queen to the Gungan sacred place, where Amidala's plea unites the two peoples against the Trade Federation.

32 BBY - Battle of Naboo and promotion to Bombad General

Named a general by Boss Nass, he blunders his way through the Gungan Grand Army's clash with the droid army on the Great Grass Plains, contributing to the liberation of Naboo.

Between 32 and 22 BBY - Junior Representative in the Senate

Jar Jar becomes Naboo's Junior Representative in the Galactic Senate, serving alongside Padmé Amidala after she leaves the throne to become senator.

22 BBY - Motion granting Palpatine emergency powers

Standing in for Amidala after an assassination attempt, he moves that the Senate grant Supreme Chancellor Palpatine emergency powers, enabling the creation of the clone army and the outbreak of the Clone Wars.

22 BBY - Mission to Rodia

Mistaken for a Jedi while accompanying Amidala on Rodia, "Bombad Jedi" Jar Jar helps free her from Nute Gunray's grasp and keeps the Rodians from defecting to the Separatists.

22 BBY - Clone Wars campaigns

He serves in a string of unlikely wartime episodes, including the rescue of Kit Fisto's forces alongside Obi-Wan Kenobi and the effort to stop Nuvo Vindi's Blue Shadow Virus on Naboo.

21 BBY - Relief mission to Aleen

Sent with clone commander and droids C-3PO and R2-D2 on a humanitarian mission to the quake-stricken world of Aleen, Jar Jar helps restore the planet's balance.

20 BBY - The Naboo doppelganger plot

When the Separatist scientist Rish Loo manipulates Boss Lyonie to turn the Gungans against Theed, Jar Jar impersonates the Boss and rallies the Gungan army back to Naboo's side.

20 BBY - Mission to Bardotta

At the personal request of Queen Julia, with whom he shares a romance, Jar Jar and Mace Windu investigate the disappearance of the Bardottan Dagoyan Masters and stop the Frangawl Cult.

19 BBY - Padmé Amidala's funeral

After the fall of the Republic and the proclamation of the Galactic Empire, Jar Jar walks in the funeral procession for Padmé Amidala in Theed.

19 BBY to 5 ABY - Outcast under the Empire

Blamed by many for the Empire's rise and shunned once more by his own people, he leaves politics behind and lives quietly on Naboo.

5 ABY - Clown of Theed

Performing as a clown in the Plaza of the Catalan, Jar Jar befriends Mapo, a boy burned and orphaned by Imperial bombing, and agrees to train him as a performer — the last canon glimpse of his life.
