Kanan Jarrus, born Caleb Dume, was a Force-sensitive human male Jedi Knight who survived Order 66 and became a founding member of the rebellion against the Galactic Empire. Trained as a Padawan by Jedi Master Depa Billaba, he was on Kaller when the clone troopers turned on the Jedi; his master's dying sacrifice allowed him to escape, and he shed his identity, abandoned the Jedi ways, and lived as a fugitive under the name Kanan Jarrus. After meeting the Twi'lek pilot Hera Syndulla during the Gorse conflict, he joined her nascent rebel cell aboard the Ghost. He is best known for leading that crew, for reluctantly returning to the Jedi path to train the orphan Ezra Bridger as his own Padawan, and for his role in the early Alliance to Restore the Republic. Blinded in a duel with Maul on Malachor, he continued to fight alongside his found family until he gave his life on Lothal to save Hera, Ezra, and Sabine from an exploding fuel depot.

Caleb Dume is born on the galactic capital of Coruscant, a Force-sensitive human who is later identified and taken into the Jedi Order for training.

~22 BBY - Padawan to Depa Billaba

Around the outbreak of the Clone Wars, Caleb becomes the Padawan of Jedi Master Depa Billaba, serving alongside her and clone troopers in the conflict.

19 BBY - Order 66 on Kaller

While on Kaller with the Bad Batch clone squad and his master, Palpatine issues Order 66. Depa Billaba sacrifices herself so Caleb can flee, and the young Padawan narrowly escapes execution by the clones.

~19 BBY - Becoming Kanan Jarrus

Now a hunted fugitive, Caleb meets the smuggler Janus Kasmir, who teaches him to survive off the grid. He abandons the Jedi ways, adopts the alias Kanan Jarrus, and largely trades his lightsaber for a blaster.

~11 BBY - The Gorse Conflict

During the Gorse conflict, Kanan meets the Twi'lek pilot and rebel operative Hera Syndulla. Drawn to her cause, he agrees to join her growing rebel cell aboard the Ghost.

~5 BBY - Meeting Ezra Bridger

Operating out of Lothal with the Ghost crew, Kanan encounters the street orphan Ezra Bridger. Sensing the boy's strength in the Force, he reluctantly takes him on as his Padawan, returning to the Jedi path he once abandoned.

~4 BBY - Duel with the Grand Inquisitor

Kanan is captured and interrogated by the Empire, then rescued by his crew. In the ensuing confrontation he defeats the Grand Inquisitor, an early victory against the Imperial hunt for surviving Jedi.

~3 BBY - Blinded on Malachor

On the ancient Sith world of Malachor, Kanan is blinded by Maul during the battle. He adapts to his loss of sight, continuing to fight and train Ezra while wearing a protective mask over his eyes.

1 BBY - Death on Lothal

During the mission to rescue Hera on Lothal, Kanan uses the Force to hold back the flames of an exploding fuel depot, sacrificing himself so that Hera, Ezra, and Sabine can escape. He dies a Jedi, having come full circle from the frightened Padawan of Order 66.
