Grogu, affectionately nicknamed "Baby Yoda" and known to many simply as "the Child," is a Force-sensitive foundling belonging to the same mysterious species as Jedi Grand Master Yoda and Jedi Master Yaddle. Born around 41 BBY, he was raised as an initiate at the Jedi Temple on Coruscant during the Clone Wars before being rescued from the Great Jedi Purge and hidden away for decades. Long afterward he was tracked down by the Mandalorian bounty hunter Din Djarin, who defied his Imperial-aligned clients to protect the child, forging a deep father-and-son bond. Grogu briefly began Jedi training under Luke Skywalker but ultimately chose his attachment to Din over the Jedi path, was formally adopted as "Din Grogu," and continued at the Mandalorian's side. He is remarkable for his precocious command of the Force despite his youth and for embodying the intersection of the Jedi and Mandalorian traditions.

Grogu is taken to the Jedi Temple on Coruscant and raised as a Jedi initiate through the final years of the Republic and the Clone Wars, trained by several masters.

19 BBY - Rescue from the Great Jedi Purge

During Order 66 and the fall of the Jedi Order, the young Grogu is rescued from the Jedi Temple by Jedi Master Kelleran Beq with the aid of sympathetic Naboo forces, and is subsequently hidden away.

Din Djarin shields Grogu from Moff Gideon and Imperial remnant forces seeking the child for his blood, which is rich in the Force, as the pair seek out the Jedi.

9 ABY - Training under Luke Skywalker

After Grogu is captured and rescued, Luke Skywalker arrives and takes the child to begin Jedi training, offering him the choice between the Jedi path and his bond with Din.

9 ABY - Choosing the Mandalorian bond

Grogu chooses Din Djarin's beskar chain mail over Yoda's lightsaber, leaving Luke's tutelage to reunite with the Mandalorian in The Book of Boba Fett.

9 ABY - Adventures and adoption as Din Grogu

Grogu accompanies Din Djarin through further trials, including the retaking of Mandalore, and is formally adopted as a Mandalorian apprentice under the name "Din Grogu."
