Key Events in IG-11's Star Wars Story
IG-11 died in 9 ABY.
IG-11 is the killer-turned-caretaker of The Mandalorian. He was a Bounty Hunters' Guild assassin droid with a built-in self-destruct charge, and in 9 ABY he teamed up with Din Djarin to storm a Nikto encampment on Arvala-7. When they found their target, the infant Grogu, IG-11 moved to carry out his order to terminate him, and Djarin shot him down. The Ugnaught farmer Kuiil salvaged the wreck and patiently retrained it into a gentle nurse droid whose new purpose was to nurse and protect. After Kuiil was killed on Nevarro, IG-11 rescued Grogu from Imperial scout troopers and rode into Nevarro City to break his companions out of a siege. He also treated Djarin's wounds, becoming the first to see the Mandalorian's face without breaking his creed. He then walked into a lava river and self-destructed to wipe out the stormtrooper platoon waiting in ambush, and Nevarro honored him with a statue. Djarin's first attempt to revive him failed when the droid's old assassin programming came back. The Anzellan droidsmiths turned his remains into IG-12, a mech that Grogu piloted in the battle to reclaim Mandalore. Afterward Djarin traded work for the New Republic for a replacement IG head, and IG-11 was rebuilt once more and installed as Nevarro's new marshal.
Before or during the Galactic Civil War - Built by Holowan Mechanicals
IG-11 is built as an IG-series assassin droid in a Holowan Mechanicals factory, with a self-destruct mechanism to protect the design from capture.
Before 9 ABY - Joins the Bounty Hunters' Guild
He becomes a Guild bounty hunter and assassin, programmed to follow Guild protocols.
9 ABY - Hunt for the Asset on Arvala-7
IG-11 takes a contract to terminate a Force-sensitive infant, attacks a Nikto encampment and reluctantly teams up with Din Djarin to take the compound.
9 ABY - Shot Down by Din Djarin
When IG-11 raises his blaster to kill Grogu, Djarin shoots him in the head and takes the child.
9 ABY - Rebuilt by Kuiil
Kuiil salvages the droid and slowly retrains him. With his memory wiped, IG-11 learns to tend blurrgs, cook and serve tea, and takes on a caring new personality.
9 ABY - Journey to Nevarro
Djarin reluctantly lets IG-11 come along on the Razor Crest for the mission to Nevarro. The droid stays aboard the ship to guard it.
9 ABY - Rescue of Grogu
After Kuiil is killed, IG-11 overpowers the scout troopers who took Grogu, steals a speeder bike and fights his way through Nevarro City to the besieged cantina.
9 ABY - Saving the Mandalorian
He cuts an escape route into the sewers, refuses Djarin's request for a warrior's death, and treats his head wound with bacta. As a droid, he can remove Djarin's helmet without breaking his creed.
9 ABY - Sacrifice at the Lava River
Facing a stormtrooper ambush at the end of the lava river, IG-11 says goodbye to Grogu, wades through the lava and self-destructs, wiping out the platoon.
9 ABY - Memorial Statue
The people of Nevarro City build a statue in the market square to honor him, partly from his recovered parts.
9 ABY - Failed Revival
Djarin takes the remains from the statue and powers them up, but IG-11 reverts to his assassin programming and goes after Grogu. CU-28 destroys him again with a bust of Greef Karga.
9 ABY - Anzellan Workshop
The Anzellan droidsmiths cannot restore him without a new IG memory circuit, and none can be found. Djarin takes R5-D4 instead.
9 ABY - Repurposed as IG-12
The Anzellans strip the body to its basic motor functions and turn it into IG-12, a mech Grogu pilots. IG-12 is destroyed during the battle to reclaim Mandalore.
9 ABY - Marshal of Nevarro
Using an IG head that Djarin gets from Carson Teva in return for working with the New Republic, IG-11 is rebuilt from the IG-12 remains and introduced to cheering crowds as Nevarro's new marshal.
